Not the Blue Cat People
I've never seen Avatar. The cartoon or the movie. I can't really watch cartoons anymore (just too old) and I feel like a date-rape victim of M. Night's movies, but I know the cartoon is mega-popular. I sketched the picture out pretty quick and decided I'd try my hand at digital painting. Turns out you need to know how to paint traditionally first. So, I did my best, used some backgrounds and effects, and it turned out okay.
Earth, Wind, Water, Fire, Heart!...wait a second...
Not exactly Captain Planet (no heart), but then again, way, WAY better than C.P. Not heart nation, but the story has plenty to make up for it. I've only seen the first few episodes years ago, so I sat down with my wife and watched the third season with her and got really into the show. I figured I should do a nod to each of the nations in the show. Enjoy.

Thundercats HO!!!!
Okay, there is no way to celebrate the amazing cartoons of the 80s (a prime time to be a child) without drawing the Thundercats - possibly the BEST cartoon ever. Possibly.
Well, I spent an incredibly long amount of time on this (hours just working out the composition). Turns out that these early-furries are INCREDIBLY hard to color. Wow. Just try to make it work.
Anyways - here we are --> WA-BAM!

Bravestarr!
While you were enjoying your Kid Video and the Mr T. Show, I was watching Bravestarr, the show that put the nails in the Filmation coffin, RIP. So I didn't want to do the usual 80's cartoons, even though Thundercats, Voltron, GiJoe, Macross, will always have a place in my heart I decided to go with Bravestarr. Probably less for the show (the animation is atrocious!) and more for the sweet toys. And since it's an actual animation property, I decided to go the opposite in art style. Oh and I'm not sure about the color version, so here's both.

Do do do do do, Inpector Gadget!
I know this is a little early for the 80's cartoon post, but next week looks like its going to be busy.
Chuck Norris
Can you believe they gave Chuck Norris his own cartoon AND action figure line in the 80s? Man, that was a great decade, wasn't it? Talk about giving a whole generation of kids a front row seat to the deadliest killing machine this side of the bubonic plague. And they wonder what's wrong with us? We were taught at the feet of the Roundhouse Killer!
Anyways, I've got another 80s Cartoon piece I'm working on right now, but it's so EPIC, that it might take me a bit longer to finish it. So, until then, here's a real quick sketch of a great, hidden gem (and I had this action figure too - it beat up all my other toys).

In brightest day, in blackest night, no commie shall escape my sight
So better late then never but with prepping pages for heroes con, doing a book, doing another piece for a book, and working 2 jobs I fell a little bit behind but I finally got this guy done. This is Hal Jordan from superman red son and it's probably one of my favorit designs for a character DC has ever done.

Weekly
I really liked this character and drawing him was a whole lot of fun. Hope you all enjoy. It seems some folks haven't read Blacksad. It must be read. I believe there are three volumes. I have the first two and they're very good stories. The art by Juanjo Guarnido is just excellent. Pick that junk up.

Blacksad!
The comic is already so badass (if anyone wants to read it and hasn't yet let me know) and I wasn't going to be able to elevate that any more, so I thought I'd go with something a little more graphic. This was fun to do, though the blinds bugged me for a little bit. I'm still unsure about them.
One Cool Cat
I also have to admit ignorance about Blacksad. I believe I was told about it before, maybe even shown some artwork, but when I was that it was the theme, I had to do some research. I spent a lot of Saturday sketching, trying to get a feel for the world, I still don't think I'm anywhere close, nor do I do it much justice, but here's an homage to Blacksad.
I Can Haz Noir Cats
So, I've never read Blacksad, but the art is incredible. It's a noir detective story, but the characters are anthropomorphic. So, yeah, they appeal to fetish groups. But, here's my version:

All the Powers of HELL!!!!
Can you believe that's a line from a Disney movie? Man, I love how crazy the old ones are. Okay, so I blame this post of Dove. I was just going to do a simple Scream piece (cause that'd be awesome), but he shoots me his killer Blade Runner pic a few days early. And it's awesome. Durnit! So, I had to step it up and get close to his level (kinda). So, I went back to the drawing board and realized I HAD to do Maleficent (from Sleeping Beauty) cause she's evil, hot, and cool-looking. Ta-da!
She also looks a lot like the Wicked Witch of the East (or West of whatever Elphaba from Wicked is. Yes, I just admitted to knowing Wicked characters. Take my man card. Sorry).

Like Tears in Rain
So I love Blade Runner. I've probably seen it 30 times, and I could watch it again right now. So when I heard that there would be villains, who better than Roy Batty. "Like tears in rain"

Killa Croc
Couple of days late on this one, but I really wanted to do it. At first, I just wanted to draw some sweet action shot of Killer Croc, but this little number popped into my head a ways into it, so I switched gears and decided to yuk it up with the Dynamic Duo. Enjoy.
Golden Age Green Lantern
So, join us all in welcoming new poster: Dove McHargue! (warning: your mind might be blown)
So I know squat-diddly about Green Lantern. I know there are hardcore rabid fans out there, who can't get enough, but I just never got into it. Looks cool though. I didn't have a clue what to do for this, and I want to start my posting here on the right foot, so I decided to ask the question "what if there had been a golden age Green Lantern movie in the 1930's, and what if it had starred Remy Fugazi?" and voila! your answer:

Deathstroke
In Brightest Day...
Okay, Green Lantern is my favorite overall continuing comic in the last 7 years. Geoff Johns has done wonders with my fave DC character of all time. If you're not reading this, stop right now, and go buy the trades. He's managed to build one of the best mythologies of any comic in just 60 some odd issues.
I drew and colored this piece a few months back and used it for my banner at conventions. It was met with SO much positive feedback from people (people would stop just to tell me how much they liked it and then keep walking), I got the itch to do another.
So, when we had this theme come up, I knew I needed to do another. I loved this one so much, I've decided to do a series involving all the "New Guardians" from each color lantern corp. Hot off the presses (finished it literally minutes ago), I give you Sinestro and Hal:

The Harley and the Ivy
Ok, so when I started this piece, I didn't realize that Harley and Ivy are often in cahoots in the comics, I just picked them both randomly. Funny how that works out. I also did cat woman. I was tryin to make these more "Super hero-y" I have mixed feelings about it, but overall not bad.
