Darth Vader

So I know Star Wars was last week and I totally meant to get this up but things were just insane from start to finish.  Anyways enough of my woes, lets talk Vader!  I will stand by this is one of the best pieces I've done for PH and THE best star wars piece I've ever done!  One of my career bucket list goals is to do a really great star wars comic.  Anyways enjoy everyone

The Age of the American Vampire

Ah American Vampire, if you aren't reading this series shame on you!  Anyone who wants to complain about the vampires being boring has read this series, it's amazing it takes all the best parts of history and combines them into an American nightmare.  Scott Snyder and Rafael Albuquerque really need to be commended because they have created what is probably one of the best villains to come out of comics in quite a while, you hate Skinner Sweet but I'll be damned if you don't love watching him do what he does best, because he's enjoys it so much.

The Inhumans

Okay, so if you haven't read Paul Jenkins and Jae Lee's The Inhumans, stop and go buy it. It's fantastic. The first read Mature Marvel book (and by "Mature" I don't mean swearing and nudity - I mean adult, introspective, and thought-provoking) and possibly their best. It's great.

Anyways, a quick tribute to it.

The Apocalypse Suite

So, a few years back, the lead singer of My Chemical Romance decided to make a comic. I avoided it, on purpose. I hate it when comic companies try to cash in on "celebrities" to sell comics. Well, it came out and I heard it was good. Like, really good. I held off. Each issue was met with acclaim. I finally gave in. And I'm glad I did.

The Umbrella Academy is one of the best, most original, creative, and fun comics in the last ten years. I loved both series (the original and the sequel entitled "Dallas"). I'm DYING for the third series, which still has no release date.

Anyways, my love letter to Gerald Way and Gabriel Ba's Umbrella Academy.

Blake

Joseph Gordon-Levitt took it for me. Every scene he was in, I was watching him. Ann Hathaway did the same--they both left me anxious for more. Awesome!

Batman...

One of the best parts of the Batman movie was the 20 min. before it started everyone around us was doing Christian Bale Batman voices for everyday conversation and it was hilarious.

And the winner is...

Catwoman. Hands down, Anne Hathaway stole Dark Knight Rises. SO awesome. Plus, a great movie.

Did this little bad boy 100% digital. I'm looking at moving that way, but man oh man, learning curve. Took me waaaay too long, but I learned a lot and it turned out decent.

Nananananananananananana....

So... the new movie was ALMOST as good as Batman and Robin. :)

"What does that mean?" - "RISE"

Well I guess it's just me again, anyways this is my drawing for the Dark Knight Rises which by the way I absolutely loved.  The movie does have its issues yes but it gave me everything I could have really wanted from the third act of this series.  I have never drawn this version of Batman and let me just say it is not easy, I did have to cheat a few spots but while it's tough it's also a lot of fun.  In regards to the Colorado shootings I want to say my thoughts are with the victims, their families, and those who responded to the scene.  The fact that this happens breaks my heart knowing that it was people just like those of us who post here and visit the site alike who went into this movie with great anticipation and had it become a nightmare, and to all those affected I am truly sorry.

Think More Villainous Thoughts

Alas, while its not a superheroic animal, I am part of a contest over at the tshirt site we love fine, which is currently featuring a Mavel villain design contest!  There are a whole lot of great entries, especially a lot of Loki entries thanks to the movie, but I decided to enter with a Journey into Mystery kid Loki (my favorite!)

Voting has now opened, and is based on a rating system.  (My design is at https://www.welovefine.com/vote.php?id_contest=17&id_submit=5086), and each '5' rating on a design brings it one step closer to being a winner.  So all you wonderful comic fans should go and vote for your favorite designs!

All he wants is to find a heart

So I'm going to be totally honest here, this might be my favorit thing I've ever drawn.  I am so in love with this guy partly because it is 100% out of my head, and it's one of those rare times where what was in my head ended up exactly on the paper!  My hope is that I'm going to get to do the entire Wizard of Oz crew like this and am already starting on a scarecrow version.

MOUSE GAURD

Finally I know I'm late on this one and i apologize but trust me I have a good excuse.  Anyways I chose to go with the boys from Mouse Guard.  If you haven't read this book then seriously stop looking at this blog and go buy it!  It's amazing, especially if you have kids it's exactly the kind of thing the comic industry should be putting up on a pedestal.  I really can't recommend this book enough.

Dex Starr

Coolest, rage filled kitty in the galaxy. It'd be ridiculous if it wasn't so awesome.

The GRODDFather

So what could be creepier than a super intelligent gorilla bent on human annihilation? Nothing.  And i LOVE his creepy "spiciest" political views. Just imagine if a small group of chimps or gorillas had human speech and reasoning, we would be scra-rewed! Anyhoo, enjoy.

Radioactive blood can't be healthy.

Jeez! That new movie was AWFUL. With all that good plot, great character interaction, and sweet special effects. I couldn't stand it.

They Finally Got it Right

So, just saw The Amazing Spider-Man and it was great! After years and years, I was sitting in the theatre, halfway through the flick and I just started smiling - they finally got Spider-man, my Spider-man, right.

Here's my piece.
Maybe I'll color it soon.

With great power comes....

....a freakin cool suit. I remember as a kid seeing the new black suit on Spidey. That Secret Wars cover, and subsequent Web of Spiderman #1 cover (go find it now!) rocked my adolescent brain, and made so much sense. I mean what better way to blend in to the shadows than all black. And from a design sense, he is a walking talking "spot black". Brilliant! Then they had to screw it all up,...CURSE YOU VENOM!!! Anyway, I will ALWAYS love the black suit.

Spider Man

So this one is more of a place holder for me, I did it a few months back and I fully intend to do a more recent one tomorrow.  While my style isn't the best fit for spiderman it's fun to draw him and see how many insane poses you can get him into.

ALIENS!!! (sorry, I'm fresh outta funny titles)UPDATED!

Hey
Sorry this is so late, I've been playing catch up after my globe trotting trip to the middle east (more on this later) but I should be on it shortly.
I love the Aliens franchise, yes ALL of them (with the exception of the Predator cross-overs) I even loved the 4th one. I recently saw Prometheus, and although I thourougly enjoyed it, it raised more questions than answered. Arggghhhhh! Anyhoo, here's my "Aliens" painting. 12"x18" acrylic and pencil on illustration board.
enjoy

Hope you dig!

Love the movies (need to see 3 & 4, though). Love the look.
Just a quick morning warmup.

Believe it or not!

just realized I don't think I have seen the first two movies all the way through...

"GAME OVER MAN, IT'S GAME OVER!"

Ah Aliens, I love this series I really do, 1 and 2 are some of my favorit movies of all time, and 3 has grown on me (work print though, not that pile of shit FOX turned out for theaters).  The great disappoint for me is that the series has just kind of limped on in comics and film (I'm looking at you resurrection).  Anyways one of the things on my career bucket list is to get to do a really awesome Alien comic at some point, so needless to say while this guy is always a headache to draw he's also a lot of fun!  And a fun side note I did this, this weekend at Heroe's Con, while sitting on the floor and jumping between 2 different booths, and my hotel room, and personally I'm pretty happy with how it looks as a result.

Avengers - Mignola Style!

So, I have an Avengers piece half-done, but until then, I thought I'd post my Avengers if Mike Mignola designed them piece.

Conan

Conan is one of those characters that probably should have been buried with Frazetta that guy's work with him was just amazing.  In any case this is my meager attempt at Conan, I do like the character just havent been all that impressed with the direction he's been taken in, in the last few years.  Still interested to see if Brian Wood can breath a bit more life into him with the endless number of artist he has jumping into that book.

Conan "You're next!"

Conan vs some big ugly giants.
Honestly not a big Conan fan here. Especially after drawing him, I mean who walks around like that? Betty Page haircut, furry underpants, furry boots, and a giant sword. It's like an analysts dream job. Still, it is fun to draw.
Enjoy

Iron Man Mark VI

Ok, so I apologize for like 10,00000 posts but it's what happens when I have time off. I'm like a crack addict for drawing and painting, always looking for the next score. So I figured I'd show some love to the newer suits.

Captain America: The First Avenger...and my favorite

I'm so excited to see all the Cap posts! I was a big fan of him when I was a kid, kind of got disenchanted with him as a teenager (as I became disenchanted with everything) and have recently been drawn to the gallant modern-day night! I was very skeptical of each and everyone of these movies, but each one really won me over--I even started giggling at the end of the Avengers! I couldn't help it! So here are some quick Avengers passes.

More Cap

I love that the Avengers week has turned into "Captain America" week. Okay, I'll pile on....

ps. both done at Heroes Con last year.

Captain America

Ah I tried I really did try to do another character besides Cap but no matter what I do I just like drawing him to much for my own good.  In any case this is my first week back on actual PH topics and I'm pretty pleased with the results.

The First Avenger

I may be early (probably late) but this was the most recent thing I've done, soooo Avengers it is. I love cap. I thought they did him justice in the flick and I love that we got to see Cap during WWII. So I decided in my first Avenger post, to send one out for Cap. Here's to you Cap, for sticking up for the little guys. Another Avengers piece is coming soon.

Pictures in Motion

I'm brushing up on my story board/animatic portfolio and one of the exercises I did recently was this fun Spider-Man story practice--I figure out of all of my practices lately, this would be most appropriate for Periodic Heroes.

Stuuuuffs I have been working on.

I'M BACK AND THERE'S NOTHING ANYONE CAN DO ABOUT IT!

So after a lengthy absence I have returned!  The last few months have resulted in me working harder than I think I ever have on a project but trust me when all is said and done it's going to be totally worth everyones while.

I'm not putting the whole pitch up (sorry guys you'll have to wait until we get this thing gets published)  But i'm going to post a few preview pages from it.

Fingers crossed this will be what consumes my entier summer and fall if we get it picked up so be on the look out!  Also Expect to see a large number of make up posts for the blog in the coming weeks!
