Lord of the Plot Holes

Okay, so, while I love the Lord of the Rings films as an incredible cinematic accomplishment, the more times you watch them, the worse they get. Sorry. Like I said, I still love them, but the massive plot holes and incomprehensibility gets to me sometimes. But I still love them. It's weird, I know.

So, keeping along with my Buffy piece, here's Galadriel (one of my favorite parts of Fellowship (and cause I'm madly in love with Cate Blanchett)) in the style of Alphonse Mucha.

Dark Willow

Buffy the Vampire slayer is my absolute favorite TV show of all time. LOVE.

I give you Dark Willow:
I never do digital paintings because I am pretty clueless about such things. I've been wanting to try to learn so I thought I'd give it a go! Hopefully I'll get better over time, and Ihave put in requests to a few friends to help me with brushes as I know the ones I've been using are pretty close to the default and therefore entirely crappy. I look forward to posting more digital work!

Additionally I'll give you a pretty anatomically screwed up piece I did several years ago of the lady herself:

Nerd that I am I actually have a third piece in the works that I started a while ago and hoped to have finished for this week, but it'll have to wait!

Thanks for looking!

The Dredded Spike!

So I think Spike is my favorite character from Buffy so I did some Spikage. I did Judge Dredd for the free drawing/video game character. I mean, there was a Judge Dredd game in the 90s. It counts.

"Close Your Eyes..."

I can't begin to put into words how much I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Best. Show. Ever. Made. If you've not, go right now, and watch it.

Since everyone around these parts has been stepping it up every single week, I had to go that much farther this week to try and keep up. Based on an Alphonse Mucha painting, here is my Buffy piece.

Though I love all the seasons (and have watched them multiple times), nothing will ever come as close to perfection as Season Two. It starts off great (especially coming off a weaker first season) and just gets better and better until it reaches a crescendo of perfection with the finale.

I could literally talk for hours about this show, but I'll stop now and get back to work on next week's piece (I've got something cooking for the next while that I think you all will like).

(not so) secretly, I'm a gamer

Though I play far fewer games now than I did in previous years (something to do with grad school taking most of my time), I've been enjoying some infamous recently, as well as getting back to some old favorites like Kingdom Hearts.

Okay, I admit it, I"m a final fantasy fan.  Its been a while since I've played them, but the fangirl in me always has a squee for when cloud and squall (er, "leon,") show up in kh2

I also really thought the prince of persia game they released in 2008 was beautiful.  And fun.  Considering they haven't done one like that since, I think I must be the only one.

You can see some in-process for this piece on my own blog, sketch vomit, and I'm putting together some tutorials for my upcoming artbook (previews here and here.)

I'ma gonna make him an offer he can't refuse!

Hey, it'sa me, the Godfather! Let's think about it, it's been thirty years since 1981, when Mario was a new, mushroom eating, dinosaur riding, princess saving plumber. He's got to be sixty-plus by now. I at first sketched a fun, happy old Mario with a walker (because he's a happy fellow). But then I thought of all the video game characters, he's like the big dog and has been for decades. He's the Godfather of the video game world! I instantly saw a Mario-Brando retired in his garden chasing the grand kids.

Casting Princess Peach

Sometimes I think or doodle things that are only funny to me at 3 AM, and manage to keep it to myself. This is not one of those times.

Here's what Princess Peach would look like if she was played by Hayden Panetierre.

Save the Princess. Save the World.

Assassin's Creed

I get to participate ! wahoo!

little big planet

So of all the characters I could have chosen this one might have come as a surprise to some people. There are so many great characters you can do for this topic but in the end I have to go with what is one of my all time favorite creations, THE sack boy, if you haven't played little big planet you're missing out go buy it.

Beauty and the Beast Remix (Twilight)

Hey guys! I'm new to the group and this is my first post. I'm so excited to be here, it should be really fun!

Now down to business! Twilight, and all the vamp/young pretty girl story lines are really Beauty and the Beast with a twist. We love to see a virginal young lady with a dangerous love interest. We've loved it for a good long while, but now the beasts happen to be beautiful. Villains used to wear black hats. Evolution is a wonderful thing. I'd much rather see Robert Pattinson than some grotesque animal/ Ron Jeremy type monster...
All of that said my piece is based on an illustration by Thomas Blackshear called "Beauty and the Beast":
I used that as the blueprint to create this:
I used imagery from the covers of all four books, as well as inserting the phases of the moon behind their faces because I needed an extra element and that fit the story in so many ways. Then of course the butterflies became forks for my own amusement. This is just the sketch, I am working on the painted/ full color version. I just wanted to post this with the Twilight stuff. I'll update it shortly with the finished version.
Until then here's a close up of the faces:
Thanks for looking!! Cheers!

Sister Christian

Okay, so, admitted, I'm the least video-gamey artist on this blog. I like them, I just don't really play them. The only one in the last 10 years I've gotten hooked on is Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. There isn't a cooler game out there (and after years, I've only beaten 18% of the game).
Religiously, I hop in the car and turn it to the Easy Listening station and blast "Sister Christian" - the BEST awful song ever. One of these days I'll get around to beating it...

Drew this up at Baltimore Comic Con and threw some quick colors on it cause the color palette of the game is awesome. 80s forever.

DaDaDaDa, snap snap, DaDaDaDa--A little late...

So I might be a little late with this post (just a few months), but I was having fun sketching the other night and trying out new things with my digital painting last night. It's getting to the Halloween season--enjoy!

Pain

I've never been a huge fan of the whole Vampire craze. But when I have watched these twilight movies I've grown really fond of Dakota Fanning's character Jane Volturi. I would totally be a fan of these movies if she just killed off Bella and Edward. So that wouldn't make the fans of the movies happy but I'd watch it. Enjoy!!!

I wonder what Joss Whedon thinks of all this...

Let's be honest, Stephanie Meyers ripped Joss Whedon off. Not in the Vampire Slayer aspect, but in her characters and their relations. If you have read or seen Twilight, go out and watch the first three seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayers and tell me she didn't draw heavily upon it. These would have been on TV about the time she was a teenager or new in college. And she never heard of it? I think not. Although, I cannot claim to be the most creative individual, and I also draw from awesome source material already out there in anything I write. So, I guess, who am I to judge? Anyways, these other three (Alice, Bella, and Edward) I just did to warm up and get inspired. I hope you enjoy.

Rock (mucka-luckin') Lee

One of my all time favorite characters from ANYTHING!

I'm not very good, I just try harder than everyone else. Great Philosophy.

"My Own Brand of Heroin"

Love or hate it, Twilight is a thing. That's for sure. I've read all the books and enjoyed them. Some were good. Some were awful. But, they were entertaining, at least.

I ended up spending quite a bit of time on my piece this week, drawing four images and bringing them together. I'm posting both the final colored version and my B&W. Let me know which one you like better.

Oh, and mad props to Stephenie Meyer for her success. Something we all wish we could find ;)
