Blake

Joseph Gordon-Levitt took it for me. Every scene he was in, I was watching him. Ann Hathaway did the same--they both left me anxious for more. Awesome!

Captain America: The First Avenger...and my favorite

I'm so excited to see all the Cap posts! I was a big fan of him when I was a kid, kind of got disenchanted with him as a teenager (as I became disenchanted with everything) and have recently been drawn to the gallant modern-day night! I was very skeptical of each and everyone of these movies, but each one really won me over--I even started giggling at the end of the Avengers! I couldn't help it! So here are some quick Avengers passes.

Pictures in Motion

I'm brushing up on my story board/animatic portfolio and one of the exercises I did recently was this fun Spider-Man story practice--I figure out of all of my practices lately, this would be most appropriate for Periodic Heroes.

So serious...

I think The Crow has just cause to be a little wound up and angry, not just because of his being murdered and the horrors his wife suffered, but because Heath Ledger came along years later and totally took over as the definitive master of crazed face-painted gritty-city comic book movie characters. Seriously, I had the biggest fascination with The Crow as a teenager--I contemplated long and hard whether I wanted to post pictures of me dressed up like the character the two Halloweens in a row I dressed up like him or not. This little sketch doesn't do it justice, but it's what I can manage at the moment:)

Dragons!

A bit of a rush job at times, but I wanted to have something a little more spiffy for the DreamWorks week. How To Train Your Dragon was a big indicator for me that DreamWorks was getting it as storytellers and filmmakers. So fun, and so engaging--I look forward to the sequel, but I'm more looking forward to being involved on such a project in the future:)

A new Yoda?

I wonder if I'm able to make a post without referencing Star Wars, but I thought Oogway was the best sage old mentor since Yoda (especially since the Prequels Yoda). I just loved his design, which I'm not sure I did justice to, but he was so fun. Looking at him makes us look at the Ninja Turtles in a whole new way. Just like Yoda, no one expected him to cut lose and whip some tushie! He's one of my favorites!
It's shameful that my theme week is almost out and I'm finally posting, but I have another one on the way, so just wait. How's that for a lame teaser! Ha!

More stinky Pirates

After posting my Pirate the other day, my friend shared some pirate photo-reference from her advanced figure drawing class this semester, so I did some sketches. Since the week isn't out yet, I though I'll post 'em! Argh!

Avast!

"Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me. We pillage, we plunder, we rifle, and loot, Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho. We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot, Drink up me 'earties, yo ho."

I am a huge Aquabat fan, and one of their songs is called "Captain Hampton and the Midget Pirates," an epic tale about a boy who joins a crew to track down and stop the deadliest pirates in the seven seas! These I did a bit ago, just for fun, but now I can finally use them!

Star Trek...or Wars, I can't keep it straight...

I was right next to Phillip watching ST for all of those young years. I believe they would show the original and the Next Generation back to back, if memory serves. But I also will always hold TNG dear. However, I was thoroughly entertained and entranced with J.J.'s new revamp. But was I the only one who noticed the Star Wars similarities? Young kid growing up on a farm with his uncle, hating it and wanting to escape. His hero father died when he was an infant. Friend of his father's finds him and beacons him to go on a hero's journey and to become a hero like his father. Faces off with a villain who has a weapon that can destroy planets...any of this ringing bells?
That's why the caption to my first sketch is, "I think you're looking for another orphaned son of a hero, Mr Obi Wan."

"I can't see nothing in this!" Like I said, I loved TNG, and my favorite character was always Geordi La Forge. Maybe it was because I was already partial to LeVar Burton from his Reading Rainbow days, but who knows. I thought he was the coolest guy. In my first adventure with film making, I played the whitest Geordi la Forge you'd ever see!

Go Robert!

Just a little something to support Robert. I almost started up an online comic for a years long pet project of mine a while back--but then I backed out. Way to go man! Looking great!

Won't You Be My Punisher?

So, I was thinking of Punisher on the way back from work, and I thought he was originally a Vietnam Vet, like a Special Ops guy, right? And that made me think of Mr Rogers! He was a sniper in the war--or so the rumor is. Punisher is getting old, so when is he going to start an afternoon children's program with a sweater vest, comfy shoes and puppets? Just curious.

Lion-O Ho!

"Sword of Omens, give me sight beyond sight...in those capsules, they're--they're THUNDERCATS!" Can anyone born in the 80's even try to claim to not liking Thundercats--with their jazzy theme song. I think an animated Lion-O would work to, a heroes journey film. As a boy he has a crush on the much older Cheetara, but on the way to third earth he grows up in his capsule--or maybe you could do a Rocket Man deal and be awake alone with Snarf for ten or so years. When they arrive he's got to become Lord Lion-O with grouchy Tigra trying to take command, kindly Pumra watching over him, and his old pals Wily Kit and Katgiving him trouble. At the same time he's trying to woo Cheetara who still seems him as a little cub. Sorry, spouting off. Enjoy!

There's Pulp in my Juice!

I'm a day or so ahead--I just had the stuff I worked on ready. I went and watched Rocketeer a few months ago for the first time in...I can't remember how long--I loved it as a kid. It was really fun! I thought it might make a really good animated flick, actually. And before Rocketeer rocked my world as a kid, I was obsessing over Dick Tracey. So, as a nod to my childhood heroes, I did these. The one of Dick all colored was me experimenting with a different style.

Metal Gear

I think i played the game...once. I just love how he's one of the coolest game characters, and yet he's got a George Michael's 5:00 shadow and a wicked 80's headband. He's so cool it hurts!

I have a man-crush on Indiana Jones

So these are from a media experimentation class I took back when I was dating my wife. We used to tease our (awesome!) professor about his Brad Pitt man-crush, so one day I decided to get his back and admit my own manly crush on Indy. And what an awesome theme song!

Oh, by the way, follow this link to enjoy the nostalgia of that theme song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVNNhBtBbOs

Justice League of Kindergarten!

Derek is bullying Caden again! What to do? call for help? From who? Justice League of Kindergarten to the rescue! I did this a while back, but I figured viewers to this blog have never seen it. I hope you like it.

Hellboy comes home

I've really only seen the first Hellboy movie years back (I also love Mike Mignola's work), but I was glad to try my hand at this--as you can see, I only had a little time to work on this, but it was really fun! Sorry it's a bit late.

You're standing on my Neck!

Please see this my favorite TV show of all time--Daria! These are my ode to the alternate character designs done at the end of every episode--that and to Star wars (who doesn't love that?).

Ghost in the Shell

Sorry I couldn't think up a better title for this one. This movie kind of blew my mind when I was younger, but now that I haven't seen it for years, I wonder how it'll hold up. Still pretty awesome.

Follow the white rabbit

I kind of liked the duality that the Matrix developed between Neo and Smith, the whole "promised one" (who wants to liberate the minds of the people and let them choose) and the "opposite" (the one who wants to control everything or drag them all down to hell with him). Anyways, just wanted to do a little bit on that idea.
