Winter is... Well kinda here.

Hey guys! It's not exactly a Christmas piece, but it's what I've been working on throughout the last week. It’ll be available for free download as a wallpaper at www.electrickeychain.com as “December” in a calendar done by illustrators in that collective. I’ve been wanting to do something based on the books/show Game of Thrones(which is AWESOME if you haven't seen it, DO.) and this project gave me a perfect opportunity! Yeah Winterfell! It’s mostly colored pencil, with a few photoshop touches. It should be downloadable in it’s full wallpapery size in a couple days tops, I’ll post the direct link when I have it! Hope you enjoy it!

A Very Green Lantern Christmas

Since it's the end of the year and my last post here before we start up again in january I've decided to end on a high with Chip rocking a Green Lantern sled. I did this for a contest with IGN and even got mentioned on their podcast but sadly didn't win....lost out to a pome, lame but in any case enjoy everyone and see you in the new year for more shenanigans

Mr. Green

So, my favorite iteration of the Hulk is Bruce Jones' "Return of the Monster" era Hulk. Yeah, most people complain about it now cause the Hulk was seldom seen - like a monster who only pops up now and then - but it was brilliant and so against-type. Made a compelling, fascinating read that I still need to finish (read the first two years, but got away from comics for a while, so need to go back and fill in the gaps).

One of my favorite things was that Bruce Banner shaved his head - and the Hulk was bald TOO! SO cool. Plus this Kaare Andrews covers were unreal cool.

Black and White here.

Skybreaker

So this is a bit of a bitter sweet post for me, these are pages from a project I was on called Skybreaker. The book was actually extremely well written by the very talented Michael Moreci (http://www.michaelmoreci.com/) Check this guy out he's got a book coming out with Image soon. In any case Michael was kind of enough to get himself a paying gig (Congrats dude) which effectively put Skybreaker on hold, BUT I figured it be worth sharing the pages that were finished up here.

The Gunslinger

So, I've been really slammed with stuff lately, and had plans for the Westerns theme, but I still haven't gotten to them yet. For now, here is a warmup sketch I did a few months back of Roland Deschain - the protagonist of The Dark Tower series from Stephen King.

Western

man it's been a while. sorry guys. but here's one of my western pics.

Yee HAW!!

So I was really looking forward to the "Western" week here at Periodic Heroes (I may be the only one). I love Cowboy movies, hats, guns, riding horses, rugged individualism etc. but when the time came all I had in me was this little sketch card. It was almost too big of a topic for me to narrow it down. So I threw in some other guys in a hats too? Does it count?
ps. these are for sale at my blog

Aeon Redux

Aeon Flux was crazy weird, but I could never look away. I miss MTV animation. Good times.

I AM CORNHOLIO!

So I love these guys, for me beavis and butt head are amazing and to have them back on the air to go after these fame mongering idiots on the jersey shore makes the inner child in me smile. I can also happily say that at 24 I still find these guys as funny as they were when I was 14, so with that being said I AM CORNHOLIO I NEED TP FOR MY BUNGHOLE!!

You're standing on my Neck!

Please see this my favorite TV show of all time--Daria! These are my ode to the alternate character designs done at the end of every episode--that and to Star wars (who doesn't love that?).

Ole' Shell Head

So, finals got the better of me, and I'm playing catch up. I fought with this one for a few days and about gave up until Dove threw down the gauntlet (as he always does). And though I can't really compete, I still try ;)
I'm not a manga/anime fan. I've given them both quite a few tries and it's just not my cup of tea (it's not bad, just not my thing, typically). But I do love me some Ghost in the Shell. It's one of the few anime that I love from that few year period where me and my brother watched (it seemed) countless videos trying to find the good ones.

The Dynamic Duo

Okay, so doing MTV Animation, I wanted to do Aeon Flux, cause she's awesome-looking. But she was similar to Ghost in the Shell, so I ended up drawing this just on accident. But I liked it.
Our good old friends Beavis and Butthead in my style.

Now, I loved these guys back when I was 10 and 11. They were hilarious. However, going back in my 20s, the humor was a bit too juvenile. BUT - their new MTV episodes are amazing. SO funny and smart. Mike Judge, back after 11 years (of mostly doing the equally brilliant King of the Hill), has come back with a vengeance. Go check it out!

Ghost in the Shell

Sorry I couldn't think up a better title for this one. This movie kind of blew my mind when I was younger, but now that I haven't seen it for years, I wonder how it'll hold up. Still pretty awesome.

Ghost in the Shell!!!

Cool movie, AMAZING manga. This is one of the properties responsible for getting me back into art. When the movie came out I saw it in theaters and knew right away that I was destined to become a MANGA ARTIST! Ok, so that plan didn't quite work out, but it definitely got me re interested in art. Done with traditional material. I'll post the color by itself ON MY BLOG so you can see how it's done.
Enjoy

No One Can Be Told What the Matrix Is...

Okay, here is the final piece.
This baby measures, at its full size, 17 inches high and 33 inches wide. So, honest to john, I even had the beginnings of a three-page background spread I was going to draw and color behind all the characters, but I just didn't have the time between this, finals, friends in town, other projects, etc. I will come back and do it at some point, but you'll at least get this for now.

I've talked enough about these movies this week, so just take my word for it - they're great. Even when they're not great, they're still great.

Please, Call Me... Larry

And last but not least: The Architect!
Now, of all the cool characters from the Matrix universe, why pick The Architect? Many people say that he is where the entire film franchise ran off the rails. I disagree completely. Until The Architect, Reloaded was okay - cool visuals, great fighting, and a little hollow. I wasn't quite sure where it was going. Then we walk unto a room filled with computer screens and get our minds blown.

Everything we thought we knew about The Matrix was blown up in a garble of crazy existential lingo. It was awesome. In a short, confusing monologue, we learn that everything is just a cog in the machine and if anyone manages to step out of line, the entire human race will be wiped out. The idea of destiny turns into slavery - you're trapped in the role you have to perform. And if you step outside destiny, everyone dies. You're no longer free to choose your path.

Plus, this parody spoof is my favorite thing ever. Skip forward to 5:50 to see the best part. And the other main reason I love The Architect.

Mr. Anderson welcome back...we missed you

At long last something is finally done, feels like all I've been doing for weeks is trying to catch up. So I loved the matrix, love it love it love it, I'm not to big on the sequels, and in particular reloaded but I take them for what they are. Good movies that are let downs by comparison of the first one but that doesn't mean there aren't things I like about them and a 1000000000 agent smiths would be one of those things

The Matrix Does Have Attractive Women

Another reason to love the sequels:
Persephone. Or, moreso, Monica Bellucci. One of the most beautiful people ever. Not only is she gorgeous, but she was a great "human" character ("human" meaning a character with humanity, not an actual human (cause she was a program)) in Reloaded (which had a lot less humanity than the first one when Neo went from being "Whoa" to "Superman"). She was a fun, complicated character. She was apathetic, yet caring. She hated the Merovingian (who was awesome and stole every scene he was in) but wouldn't hurt him directly cause she loved him.

Follow the white rabbit

I kind of liked the duality that the Matrix developed between Neo and Smith, the whole "promised one" (who wants to liberate the minds of the people and let them choose) and the "opposite" (the one who wants to control everything or drag them all down to hell with him). Anyways, just wanted to do a little bit on that idea.

Matrix; The Twins

So I had a really hard time coming up with something for the matrix, only because there were so many cool things in the franchise, I couldn't decide. I liked these guys though, and I always thought that these two were like the Sentinels personified in the Matrix world.
enjoy

ps I added some color versions too. Done traditionally.

Welcome... to the real world.

Morpheus
While I feel bad that Carrie-Anne Moss will never be thought of as anything other than Trinity, I don't feel bad that Lawrence Fishburn will always be Morpheus. Cause he's awesome. Through almost the entire trilogy, he's a real man. Heck, he takes on Agents left and right *knowing* that he's going to die. But he believes in the prophecy (more than anyone in the movies) and he'll die for it. When Neo gets too busy whining about whatever, Morpheus reminds us that some men still have a backbone in the Matrix.

Black Leather Robot

And Trinity.
So, for all the pieces I'm doing for this week, this one worked the best beginning to end. I spent a while drawing all the characters until I could figure out what Trinity was going to be. I didn't want to do the standard, hovering in mid air pre-kick thing. Once I figured this figure out, all the rest changed and got drastically better.

Though she had about as much chemistry with Keanu Reeves as I do, you couldn't help but like Trinity. She was cold and hard and kicked major butt in skin-tight black leather. What's not to love (other than the lack of chemistry between he co-star even though their love was supposed to be the one factor that cause the defeat of the Matrix)?
